The Bruised Bee

When the design team told the client that we wanted to work in a palette of black, grey, yellow, white and purple for his living room, he promptly said that it reminded him of a bruised bumble bee. Fortunately, we have a way of sweet talking clients into playing along with our plans.

monogram-decor-courtney-lake-interior-design-castro-victorian-header Originally hired to update the living room, Monogram was quickly hired to update the foyer as well allowing us to create the perfect flow from once a visitor enters the space. Embracing the charming features that make Victorian’s so highly sought after, we stayed true to the feel of the space but updated it with a fun color palette and modern furniture.

monogram-decor-courtney-lake-interior-design-castro-victorian-header The foyer was given a metallic wall treatment that reminded the team of Victorian anaglypta paper allow us to create a dark and moody entry that opens up to a fun, modern and bright landing and living room. A custom window bench with raised molding was created to provide extra seating & a conversation nook in the narrow living room. The original redwood fireplace and light fixtures were refurbished to their original glory and provide the perfect amount of historical reference to the home’s past. In contrast, modern floating shelves and cabinets were installed on either side for additional storage and display space.
